Hello. I am a long time kde fan, so don’t take this lightly.
XFCE is the only lightweight desktop that can brag comperability to gnome and kde, and in my oppinion is infact just as good if not better than gnome already. Hats off to the xfce team.

I’m currently using version Xfce 4.3.90.2 on Zenwalk (slackware based lightweight distro). I’m really amazed! The look and feel makes it more pleasant to work with and Thunar is great :) Thank you all.

I too would like to have xfsound. I don’t usually like to have sounds except for email notification, but there are days of whimsy when it’s nice to have little chirps and subtle beeps and musical interludes to accompany various actions and errors.

I hope xfsound or some other mechanism to provide sound for events in xfce, will become a reality in a future release.

P. S. I have used IceWM almost exclusively for over three years; experiments with other WM’s and/or environments usually send me scurrying back to IceWM. Xfce is the only serious competitor I’ve tried out of probably a dozen, including all the “big” names. In fact, I am currently preferring xfce because it looks so much better, and seems to be every bit as fast as IceWM or blackbox (for one other example). I had trouble setting up xfce properly with the Autostart file, and that file gets mysteriously altered now and then, but generally xfce is very well behaved and it has not crashed yet (IceWM crashed maybe two times in three years of use, not bad).

I’m using xfce v. 4.2.1, on Ubuntu Hoary Hedgehog; I was unable to get a later version to install.
